Uncomfortable Ornament II
Uncomfortable Ornament II explores the leaps in function undertaken by familiar forms, where strange connections lead a mundane object such as a baluster to acquire the symbolic meaning of a seemingly unrelated pomegranate.
Using the results of an original offset timber turning process, the form is used as a running mould to roll a clay cornice tile with uncomfortable undulations, altering the appearance whilst retaining the familiarity of an ornamental cornice.
This project forms a part of the wider Gained In Translation project exhibited at the XXI Milan Triennale.
